My head is spinning....I lost my dog in February (a bichon frise) and am beginning to think of a new dog....want to get a bichon or a maltese....I have called the people in the paper and they are scary...some guy told me he was going to fund his daughters college education with his dog (that poor dog!!!)...I have tried petfinder and the supposed shelters on there are nothing but fronts for puppy mills....I looked into one shelter and they wanted $300-800 for a dog....thats a business not a shelter/rescue, then today I tried some Bogner Acres that has a nice website and they look so sweet- I called the lady and drove out there...she was a looney and the place looked like a puppy mill hidden inside a big farmhouse....and when she found out I was just looking and didn't want to immediately buy a dog she walked away and went inside....does anyone know a legitimate place to buy a dog that won't cost a fortune and isn't insane and just pumping out dogs for the money....read the Scene magazine last week about Amish puppy mills...its disgraceful that this goes on in Ohio...no more patronizing Amish shops for me!!!!  Help!! j I would go to a shelter and even volunteer for a local shelter but I need a hypoallergic, non-shedding dog!!  Any advice would be appreciated.....

Have you gone to the AKC website for referrals?

We adopted a Brittany 4 years ago from American Brittany Rescue (definitely not for you if you're looking for non-shedding!!!) Wink

Anyway, we googled brittany rescue to find her, so I would recommend that.

I will also send you a pm...I found a rescue organization that works with small dogs, and they appear to be a decent organization that works on getting dogs and their puppies out of the puppy mills and the whole puppy mill system.  You may want to check them out!

wooz, glad to hear you are lookin to get a new puppy.  that doggy is going to be so lucky to have you, as you so spoiled your last lil baby.  i searched craigslist for a long time and got my beagle from a nice lady in Parma for $35(the vet fee for worm meds)  she just wanted the pups to go to a nice home.  it seems lots of people are rehoming their animals lately.  i have seen bischons(young, not puppies though) and they are taken fast so write down the number or email quickly.

I will talk to my stepmom tonight. They got a designer dog from a place that rescues them from puppy mills!!

I think they paid 175.00 but it included getting it fixed and a microchip!!  I have heard that many places that take strays have purebreeds due to the fact that many peolpe leave them behind when times get tough!!

I adopted my bichon frise from small paws rescue.

They have a list of adoptable bichons located all over the United States.  I decided to adopt a puppy from Oklahoma and paid to have her flown here.  There are also dogs in Ohio.  I had a good experience with them.
