last August, we spent a weekend in that area - there is a thread on this board about it which is where I found most of my info, but we went to beach city (outside water park). We went on a Thursday, got coupons on line, and while I don't remember the price, it was pretty cheap and my kids loved it! Also, we went to the Cinncinnati zoo which we got in free or discounted with our Akron Zoo membership. We crossed over to Kentucky to do the aquarium which we only had $1 q for so that was on the high side. Hope that helps -

The aquarium is awesome but a little high priced. I cant think of name of it right off hand though. Go to a local store and look for coupon books inside sets of doors, Kroger always has them...not sure if they have Kroger near you though.

We just back from Mason today! We actually live there 10 years ago, and my how the place has changed! There are so many stores, shops and restaurants there...it is amazing that 10 years ago it was all fields. We stayed at the Best Western at exit 19 (Fields-Ertel Rd. exit.) My husband went directly to the Best Western site and got a rate of 62.99/night. This is a AAA rate, but he said the regular rate wasn't that much more (maybe $10). Breakfast is included every morning (doughnuts, eggs, sausage, toast, bagels, english muffins, waffles, apples, cereal, coffee, apple & orange juice, & milk). There is a microwave and small refrigerator in each room. It was nice and clean. It is 5 -10 minutes from the park. Best Western is also running a special where if you have 2 stays by Aug 15 ( ), you get a 3rd stay free. Not sure on all of the details on that one, as that is my husband's department. If you are a AAA member (or know someone who is) you can get Kings Island tickets for 28.99 each...much cheaper than the gate price! I believe Kroger also has discounted tickets (there are a couple of Krogers within a 5 minute drive in either direction of the hotel.) I am not sure what the discount is from Kroger, but I don't think it is as good as the AAA rate. Here is the thread hoppypa was referring to: http://northeastohiocouponers.com/forums3/index.php?topic=1195.0

The KI water park is really nice, but if you aren't able to utilize KI, I would look into "The Beach" waterpark (especially if you can't get tickets through AAA.) It is probably a 5 minute drive, at most from KI. We never went there when we lived in Mason because we had a baby at the time. Hoppypa went there last year, and I think she said it was great. It is fairly inexpensive, too. I think if you buy on-line it is $22 for an adult, and maybe $15 for kids. About KI (and I know this is true at Cedar Point, as well)...if you want water, don't buy the bottled water. You can go up to any concession stand and they have small plastic cups they will fill with water for free!
